ShowBiz Scoop | Quentin Tarantino to Direct New Star Trek?

Big news all around for the Star Trek franchise!

I’ll be honest and say that Star Trek never quite appealed to me, in spite of it starring so many of my faves (Shatner, Goldberg, Stewart, etc.). But upon hearing there could be a film that has a story not only by Quentin Tarantino, but directed by him? Needless to say, I am all in for that. Even more than that? Sir Patrick Stewart has now said that he would be willing to reprise his iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard under the direction of Tarantino.

When asked about returning to the role at the Dubai International Film Festival, Stewart replied, “…One of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr Tarantino, I would embrace it.

“The one thing that characterizes all of his movies is that frame by frame, it always challenges, always demands your attention, always demands a very kind of open and generous response to what he does,” he said. “I also love his sense of humor as a filmmaker. So yes, he would be my first choice.”

I was excited and thrilled to see his take on such a franchise. Universally known indie director Tarantino has wanted to do something of this caliber for quite sometime, but for whatever reason, has yet to do it. I know once upon a time he said that a good director only has about a dozen films in him, but I’ve been hoping he would make a retraction.

Tarantino isn’t merely a favorite of mine due to his directing, but he is also a master storyteller. Many forget that whenever his name is mentioned. He grew up studying TV, then studied film as he got older, even working at a video store. He is truly a connoisseur of film and media. I’ve had the pleasure of reading some of his scripts, and I must say, they are just as engaging as his films. There are many who attempt to tell stories out of sequence à la Tarantino, and they typically fail. In a perfect world, Tarantino would tackle all genres of film, and today, it seems as if that may be a possibility.

I have yet to see a Star Trek film, even with J.J. Abrams at the helm in some capacity or another. But for Tarantino? You bet your ass I’ll be there.

Side Note: Would still LOVE to see Q.T. do a big budget super hero film. DC, Marvel, or original, I really don’t care. I just want it done asap.
